St. John Lutheran is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, WELS. Wisconsin is where our church body had its start in 1850. Evangelical means that we preach and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Being Lutheran means that we hold to the Lutheran confessions as accurate representations of what Scripture teaches. The word Synod means “walking together.”
WELS has 1,278 congregations throughout North America and about 380,000 baptized members. WELS conducts gospel outreach in the United States, Canada, and 23 foreign countries through seed sowing and evangelism efforts, congregation and church planting, training ethnic and national workers for ministry, and providing religious materials in foreign languages.
